The people we meet on our travels can make all the difference and I’m on a mission to introduce you to as many of them as possible. I’ll share how we met, some of our favorite memories, and all their recos. If you want to experience Breckenridge like a local, meet Jess.

How it started
“I’m from a little town in Colorado.”
As I settled into a pub promising live music in Dingle, Ireland, I couldn’t help but overhear three American girls chatting animatedly to my left. We quickly exchanged introductions and got a reminder of how small the world is.
One of them announced she was from a small town in Colorado called Breckenridge and a bartender at a local’s place I knew well. She must have served me 100 times before, but it took a random encounter across the world to make us friends.
How it’s going
I met Jessica in that pub back in June of 2018. We’ve stayed in touch, and I still see her every time I go back Breckenridge. Because of her welcoming and friendly spirit, it’s always easy to pick up where we left off.
Whether you’re traveling in a group or solo to Breck, just know you already have a friend there. Check out her recommendations to experience Breckenridge like a local and make sure to stop by to see her at Ollie’s Pub & Grill when you’re in town.
Meet Jess, a Q&A
Are you from Breckenridge originally?
No, my twin sister moved out for a season several years back. I came to visit her and fell in love with the town. It was one of the most beautiful places I had ever seen! I was convinced to stay for a summer, and I am so glad I did.
The locals have a saying “come for the winters, stay for the summers” and it couldn’t be more true!
What’s your favorite thing about living here?
The views and the never-ending hobbies you can pick up.
Hiking, biking, camping, rafting, fishing, rock climbing, four wheeling… There are endless opportunities to get outside, get active, and make the most of your time here.
You’re a bartender at Ollie’s Pub & Grill. Do you like it?
I love my job. Not only the people I work with but everyone I meet is from somewhere different and has an interesting story to share. I love meeting and interacting with new people.
Not to mention, the view from Ollie’s is hard to beat. Who wouldn’t want to go to work every day with a view of the mountains on all sides?
What are your top 3 favorite things to do in Breck?
Hiking, snowboarding, and camping.
To see?
Crystal lakes (via hiking trail), Montezuma (accessible via 4-wheeling trail), and the view of town from the top of the mountain.
To eat?
Ember is my husband’s and my favorite place. It’s where we usually end up on date night. Modis is also really good and Giampietro has great pizza.
Are there any “locals” secrets you can share with visitors?
If Breckenridge is too busy to ski, Beaver creek is the next best option. It’s only a short drive over Vail Pass and the mountain has amazing runs.
What’s your favorite thing about meeting people there for the first time?
Just to see their reaction to our town and what they honestly think. Most people tell me how lucky I am to live in such an amazing little town – I agree!
What do you wish more visitors knew about Breckenridge before they came?
Not everyone is a ski bum. A lot of people that live here are working really hard to make a living.
Also pay attention when you drive, haha! People often stop when they don’t have to, or don’t yield to pedestrians when they’re supposed to.
Anything else you think first-timers should know?
If you need help with anything – like directions, where to eat, etc. – ask a local! Everyone here is super friendly and we want you to know and love our town the way we do! I love helping people out and want you to have the best experience possible so that you come back!
Don’t be shy!
Jessica is one of my favorite locals because of her genuine love for meeting new people. She’s someone who wants to make sure those around her feel comfortable, included, and are having a good time. If you find yourself in Breckenridge and curious how to experience it like a local, make sure you plan a trip to Ollie’s to say hi.
And tell her Kerri sent you! <3
