Located between major metros, Dallas and Fort Worth, Grapevine, Texas, is a sophisticated suburb with historical charm and friendly locals. Home to more than ten wine tasting rooms, an abundance of art galleries, inventive eateries, and no more than five minutes from DFW airport, Grapevine is an impressive destination in its own right. And with so many possibilities to keep visitors entertained, there’s a chance nearly everywhere you turn to meet people in Grapevine.
No matter where you’re from, what you expect to find, or how long you stay, Grapevine is guaranteed to find a special place in your heart. I’m proud to call it my hometown and can’t wait to introduce you. You’ll have no trouble making new friends at any of the recommendations below.

Meet new people any day of the week at Hop & Sting
Hop & Sting Brewing Co has more than 15 beers on tap year-round and nearly as many seasonals on rotation. But the vast selection of hoppy goodness is only one small part of what makes this brewery so special. A large patio outfitted with misters hosts families and friend groups big and small. Rotating food trucks introduce guests to familiar favorites. And nearly every night of the week, there’s an event aimed at making you a part of their community.
Bikes & Brews on Monday brings cycling enthusiasts together for a ride around Grapevine before celebratory beers. Tuesday is for those that prefer to be active on their own two feet with Hop & Sprint. Charity Bingo on Wednesday is not only a chance to play but to give back when you do. Thursdays are live music nights, and Fridays are for yoga. And the list goes on. Even if this were the only place you went, you’d have no less than a thousand opportunities to meet new people.
The brewers of Hop & Sting take their place in the community seriously. At any given time, there are at least four charity beers whose proceeds benefit local organizations. And the community events they host are designed to help them foster deep relationships. So, don’t be surprised to see Jon, Brian, and Lane wandering around on any given day, and don’t be afraid to say, “hi!”
Grab a bite and gab with new friends at Chez Fabien
When someone asks for a restaurant reco in Grapevine, Chez Fabien instantly springs to mind. Not only is the food consistently fabulous, but the atmosphere of sophisticated conviviality is addictive. If you have a large party, reservations are highly recommended, but if it’s just you and you’re ready to mingle, take a seat at the bar.
Bar tops are generally a good place to sit when you’re dining alone or with equally talkative friends, but especially at Chez Fabien. At this bar, you’ll meet several regulars who can’t wait to chat with you. They’ll divulge their favorite dishes and other local recommendations with minimal prompting.
The bartenders are friendly and straightforward with their recommendations too. And if you do get a table? Ask for Eric. He’s not only an excellent server but a personal friend of mine who can’t wait to meet you.
Eat, drink, and get merry at Harvest Hall
If you like good food, great cocktails, and live music, you’ll love Grapevine’s newest venue. Harvest Hall is a European-style food hall featuring a sampling of creations by local chefs. It’s practically custom-made for meeting people. Take your pick from one of seven kitchens in the spacious hall before making your way to a communal table.
No more than five minutes from DFW airport and attached to a boutique hotel, you could find yourself sitting next to a local, a business traveler, or another citizen of the world. And the food you’ve selected will serve as the perfect ice breaker. If you’re looking to make an evening out of it, the Third Rail bar is on the south side of the Hall. Most nights of the week (typically Wednesday – Saturday), various musicians take to the stage. A large dance floor beckons you to join it. Or pull up a seat to the bar in the back. Look for Maria and ask her to make you a drink. She’s a pro mixologist and makes cocktails even tastier than they look.
Bet on BoomerJack’s for the big game
Ok, I know it’s a chain, but trust me! The BoomerJack’s in Grapevine is relatively new. It took over the space previously owned by Joe’s Crab Shack and enhanced the best feature – the patio. Already massive, renovations added fire pits, an outdoor fireplace, and more than 50 TVs. Yes, 50! Boomer’s is, without a doubt, the best patio for game day.
Between the fire pit and large communal tables, this is a patio made for connecting with others. Sports have a universal language that brings us together after all – even when we’re talking smack. It’s a fun way to start a conversation with a stranger who could become one of your dearest friends. All because you bonded over the big game…
BoomerJack’s is also dog friendly, so feel free to bring your best friend and use him to help break the ice.
Connect with nature and new friends at Grapevine Lake
Due north of the airport is expansive Grapevine Lake. With more than three parks located around its shores, there’s no limit to the outdoor adventures you can get into. Hiking and biking trails, yoga classes, paddleboards, and kayaks are featured here for those who enjoy spending time with mother nature.
Paddleboards and kayaks can be rented from at least three operators near each of the parks. You can also join tours to venture out and explore the lake with other voyagers. It’s the perfect opportunity to get outside and bond with others who like to explore.
After you’ve worked up a good sweat, head over to Big Daddy’s Ship Store at the Scott’s Landing Marina. It’s a very casual patio with a variety of snacks, both healthy and decidedly not. Things get a little more animated with live music playing in the afternoons and into the night on weekends.
Oh, and how could I forget. Big Daddy’s is BYOB, so making friends is as easy as having an extra beer on hand to break the ice.
Brave the heat at Vetro Glassblowing Studio
If you were the chatty kid in class, Vetro Glassblowing Studio is for you. Inside, a kaleidoscope of colorful glass has been molded into shapes from the mundane to the epic masterpiece. You’ll not only have an opportunity to connect with other admirers as you marvel at finished pieces, but seats are available inside the studio to watch the artists at work.
Watching glassblowers in action is hypnotic. The undeniable heat of the oven envelops you as molten orbs are pulled from their depths and rolled into endless shapes. It takes several minutes for each form to become recognizable, with a myriad of patterns and colors springing to life. It’s a spectacle worth witnessing, especially on a colder day.
Throughout the year, Vetro also offers a variety of hands-on classes, including some with seasonal flare. In October, for example, classes provide students the chance to craft their own glass pumpkin. Let your creative side loose and connect with others while you learn a new skill.
Shoot the bull at Bull Lion Winery
Bull Lion Winery is one of the newest tasting rooms on Grapevine’s Main Street. Though they didn’t officially open until November 2020, they participated in the New Vintage Wine & Gallery Trail that October. They set up their tasting display outside, and this family-run business made everyone feel at home immediately.
The tasting room itself is full of fascinating tales. Between the history of the building and the evolution of the wine, there’s a myriad of conversations to be had as you sample the wine. The tempranillo is my personal favorite, and the charcuterie is delicious too.
Everyone on the staff is exceedingly friendly and beyond knowledgeable about their wine. The owner, Chuck, is a loquacious Texan with a genuine love for talking to strangers. Whether you’re looking to learn more about their wine or simply pass the time, he’s your guy.
Find a dance partner at Chill
One of the biggest paradoxes in Grapevine, Chill, is a bit of a chameleon. During the day, you’ll find a genuine sports bar with a smattering of TVs adorning the walls. You can enjoy a variety of games while munching on familiar favorites – I recommend the Mile High Nachos and Fried Pickles – inside or on the spacious, dog-friendly patio.
But at night, Chill transforms into something entirely different. The tables are cleared from the back of the room, and a stage is revealed. As the DJ warms up, fog machines and laser lights set the mood, and it’s time to dance.
While it’s true that this is no Pacha or Studio 54, it is a ton of fun. The DJ plays until 2am so you can dance the night away. Waitresses glide through the crowd offering Jell-o shots. At just $2 apiece, these are the best bang for your buck and just plain yummy too.
Make friends while dancing to your favorite songs from college or catching your breath outside. It’s an eclectic crowd that knows how to let loose.
Enjoy friendly fellowship at FOTP
If you’re planning an extended stay, moving to the area, or simply want to stay connected to your faith during your travels, Fellowship of the Parks in Grapevine is full of the most welcoming people you’re likely to meet. Not to be confused with the mega-church in North Grapevine, FOTP is a more intimate experience fostering deep connections with visitors and regular attendees.
There are three services on Sundays (9:30am, 11am, 12:30pm). A team of greeters and Pastor Charles are there to welcome you at the door at each one. The church is laid-back with a more casual approach to ministry that’s powerful in its simplicity. And don’t worry about getting stage fright trying to match pitch on classic hymns that only professionals sound good performing. A live band plays modern gospel music. Singing, dancing, and whatever makes you happy is encouraged.
Charles and his wife Pat are happy to get to know you, and I personally go here too. So keep an eye out for me if you decide to stop by.
Grapevine is for new friends and good times
Grapevine, Texas is my hometown, so I may be a little biased, but I’m willing to bet you’ll love it too. The town’s Main Street looks like something out of a Hallmark movie, its restaurants are irresistible, they host two annual wine festivals, and Grapevine is even the Christmas Capital of Texas. It’s a small town with a big personality.
Every recommendation mentioned in this post is a place I visit frequently too. If you take a chance on my recos and happen to see me, please say hi! I’d love to meet you in person and show you around!
